SABRES SIGN GOALTENDER LIEUWEN TO ENTRY-LEVEL CONTRACT

Sabres.com reports: "Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced that the team has signed goaltender Nathan Lieuwento a three-year, entry-level contract.

Lieuwen (6’5”, 189 lbs., 8/8/91) finished the 2011-12 season ranked third among all Western Hockey League goaltenders with a 2.50 goals against average and ranked fifth with a .914 save percentage. In his second season as the starting goaltender for the Kootenay Ice, Lieuwen went 27-20-6-2 with three shutouts." Read more...

Sabres' Hodgson fighting a bum rap

As reported by the Buffalo News: "Gary Roberts knows Cody Hodgson well. The retired 22-year veteran of the NHL has seen Hodgson try to train through a debilitating injury. Roberts has seen his young son take to Hodgson, and he watched the center respond by having daily lunches with the 4-year-old boy on Roberts' patio. Roberts has seen the drive and desire Hodgson has to be a successful hockey player." Read more...

Sabres increase ticket prices

The Buffalo News is reporting: "The Sabres announced their season-ticket prices for 2012-13 Wednesday, and each seat will increase $2 to $8 per game. Fans in the 100 Level will feel the biggest jump. Tickets in the lowest level are rising as much as 12.2 percent." Read more...

AMERKS LOOK TO STAVE OFF ELIMINATION IN GAME 3

As Reported by Sabres.com: "The Rochester Americans host their first home game of the 2012 Calder Cup Playoffs tonight at The Blue Cross Arena as the Amerks look to stave off elimination in Game 3 of their Western Conference Quarterfinals with the North Division rival Toronto Marlies. The 7:05 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Sports 1280 and 107.3 WHTK. The first 5,000 fans through the arena doors tonight will take home a white pom pom, courtesy of Tops Friendly Markets. The Marlies currently lead the best-of-five series 2-0 following consecutive 4-3 wins over the Amerks in Games 1 and 2 at Ricoh Coliseum." Read more...

The Buffalo News Reports: "In a hype-filled season, no one failed to live up to the billing more than Leino. The Sabres felt the forward was coming into his own as an NHL force and paid big bucks to lure him to Buffalo. The first season of the six-year, $27 million contract was an unquestioned bust."
